Blue sapphires, sunk flush into a wide band of warm antique gold, with old‑cut diamonds scattered through hand‑engraved foliage. Struck in 1864 and hallmarked to prove it — 56 zolotnik, the old Russian standard for 14k.
This ring was made in a world that no longer exists. It came out of Imperial Russia under Alexander II — decades before the revolution that ended that empire — and it has outlived the country that stamped it, every hand that wore it, and more than a century and a half of history. The gypsy setting is why it's still whole: each stone sunk into the gold itself, protected, unbothered by time.
Sapphires were the stone of the Russian court — worn for wisdom, for protection, for rank. This one kept its color and its nerve through all of it. Nothing about it is delicate. It was built to endure, and it did.
If ever a piece earned the words: this is what survived.
